If you’re looking up dumpster prices, you’ve probably got a lot on your plate. Maybe it’s a kitchen renovation that’s finally happening. Maybe you’re getting ready to move. Maybe you’re clearing out a parent’s house, which is a job that’s hard in more ways than one. Whatever brought you here, the question is usually the same: “What is this actually going to cost me, and am I going to get hit with a surprise bill afterward?” Here’s a straight answer from a family-run hauler in Hunterdon County.
The short answer: dumpster rental prices in Hunterdon & Somerset County

What’s included in the price
The number in the table isn’t a teaser rate. It covers:
- Delivery to your property
- Pickup and hauling away when you’re done
- Up to 7 days on-site
- A weight allowance, from 1 ton on a 10-yard up to 4 tons on a 40-yard
For most household projects, that’s the whole bill. The rest of this post covers the few things that can change it, so you can plan around them before the dumpster ever shows up.
Weight vs. size: the #1 reason a bill goes up
This is the one that catches people, so it’s worth a minute. A dumpster has two limits: how much space it holds (the “yards”) and how much weight is included. You can hit either one first.
Couches, cardboard, and old furniture take up space but don’t weigh much. Tile, plaster, concrete, brick, dirt, and roofing shingles are the opposite. They’re so heavy that a dumpster can be over its weight allowance while it still looks half empty. Anything over the included weight is billed per ton.
Two practical tips:
- For heavy debris, size down, not up. A 10- or 20-yard is usually the smarter pick for concrete, masonry, or shingles, because you’ll reach the weight limit before you run out of room anyway.
- Tell us what you’re throwing out when you call. “Mostly furniture” and “a bathroom’s worth of tile” need different dumpsters, and we’d much rather get it right up front than have you surprised later.
One more thing: water is heavy. If you’re cleaning up after a flood or a leak, soaked carpet and drywall weigh a lot more than dry, so mention it when you book.
Other things that can change your price
- Keeping it longer than 7 days. Life happens, and projects run long. Extended rentals are available. Just ask, ideally before your week is up.
- Distance. Our listed prices cover a 20-mile round trip of Clinton. We serve a wider area across Hunterdon, Somerset, and Warren counties, so if you’re farther out, ask and we’ll give you the exact number before you book.
- Needing a second load. If one dumpster isn’t enough, we can haul the full one away and drop an empty one. It’s often cheaper than jumping to a much larger container you only half fill.
- Loading above the top. Debris has to stay below the dumpster walls so it can be hauled safely.
- Items that can’t go in. That’s the next section.
What can’t go in the dumpster
Most everyday junk and construction debris is fine: furniture, mattresses, carpet, wood, drywall, cabinets, yard debris, and cardboard. For safety and legal reasons, these can’t go in:
- Medical, infectious, or hazardous waste, and asbestos
- Antifreeze, oil, paint thinners, and pesticides
- Propane tanks and aerosol cans
- Tires, batteries, and fluorescent bulbs
- Appliances with Freon, and electronics like TVs, computers, microwaves, and phones
Most of these can be recycled. Hunterdon and Somerset counties both run household hazardous waste and electronics collection days, so check your county’s website for the next date. The full accepted and not-accepted lists are on our dumpster rental info page.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in NJ?
Usually not, if the dumpster sits on your own property, like your driveway. If it has to go on the street or sidewalk, a permit may be needed, and the rules and fees are set by each town. If street placement is your only option, a quick call to your town clerk’s office before delivery day will settle it.
Will it damage my driveway?
It’s a fair worry, especially if you’re about to sell the house. We place every dumpster carefully to protect residential driveways. Tell us about anything we should know when you book, like a fresh blacktop job, a soft shoulder, low wires, or a tight turn, and we’ll plan around it.
If you’re clearing out a loved one’s home
We do a lot of these, and we know it’s rarely just a cleanout. A few things that tend to help: sort first and load second, so nothing meaningful ends up in the dumpster by accident. Set aside anything that can’t go in, like old paint and electronics, as you go. And don’t let the 7-day window rush you. If you need more time, tell us, and we’ll work with you. Whatever the reason you’re clearing out, there’s no judgment here. We’ve seen it all, and helping is what we’re here for.
A quick checklist before you call (us or anyone)
- What’s included in the price: delivery, pickup, and how many days?
- How much weight is included, and what’s the charge over that?
- What does an extra day or a second load cost?
- Is my address inside the standard delivery area?
- What can’t go in, so I can plan for it?
A good hauler will answer every one of these without hesitating. We’re happy to.
